Nature Connection Sharing Hui
Earlier this term over 25 ECE teachers came together to share and learn from each other. Teachers with a range of nature connection experiences had the opportunity to share what they do, how they do it and the outcomes they have seen. It was also an opportunity for those that are new to the kaupapa to hear how it can be done.
Over the past two years there has been a growth in the number of nature connection programmes being offered in Marlborough.

All of the programmes operate and run in different ways depending on a number of logistical matters such as location, timing etc. However, they all offer experiences that children may not otherwise get. This is the time to slow down, observe, explore and be creative. In a world where everything is on demand and fast paced, the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll and notice the ants or a snail trail on a wall is becoming less and less. Nature Connection prioritises the journey rather than the destination and allows us to slow down and empower tamariki to lead the way and make these observations.

Ramona sharing how she uses the nature connection kit
With a wealth of knowledge and experiences growing amongst Marlborough ECE centres and Kindergartens a sharing hui was planned. Ramona started the hui by sharing some background about why nature connection is so important and then teachers were encouraged to engage and share their own knowledge.
Teachers, left feeling empowered, inspired and recognised for the mahi that they are doing. They are seeing and hearing the benefits of these programmes and making them a priority.
