Tuakana-teina tree planting opportunity

The Climate Youth Action Team (CYAT) Marlborough wants to visit your school and help your students plant trees for the climate.

With the next School Strike 4 Climate coming up, CYAT Marlborough is getting ready for an epic week of raising awareness and taking action against climate change. As a youth-led and oriented group, they want to involve youth across Marlborough and engage them in the climate movement. On the week starting 23rd of September (Week 10), a week’s worth of action is being planned, leading up to the School Strike for Climate on Friday 27th September. On the Tuesday of that week (24th September) they are hoping to visit Marlborough schools, share what they are doing (and why) with students, and, with the support of the Marlborough Rotary Club, plant native trees with these students either in or around their schools or kindergartens.
We believe that this sort of youth-on-youth engagement is the best way to motivate young people to stay strong and take action.

What you need to do

Please get in touch if you would like the group to visit your school on (or around) Tuesday 24th September.  They will bring the plants – you just need to have a piece of land ready for planting, and a group of students (ideally your Enviro-group, Climate Action Group, or any group of students who are interested in helping with the climate crisis) available to work with them.  They are happy to plant one tree, or many trees, depending on the space that you have available – just let them know what would work for you in terms of timing, and number of plants.  Please contact George Varney at georgevarney81@gmail.com.

We hope you consider taking part in this positive, youth-led action to help combat climate change.  The group is hoping to get lots of schools involved, and will keep you all in the loop with regard to any other initiatives for that week.
