The NZ Garden Bird Survey: 27 June – 5 July 2020
Take part in the New Zealand Garden Bird Survey 2020. You can integrate it into the curriculum using activities developed by Manaaki Whenua.
Birds are important indicators of the health of New Zealand’s environment, and every NZ Garden Bird Survey completed helps to build a picture of birdlife across New Zealand.
– Spend just one hour watching birds in your garden and recording the highest number of each species you see or hear at one time.
– Help monitor distribution and detect population trends in garden birds.
– Introduce your class to citizen science and the birds at your school.
Find out all that you need to know at the Garden Bird Survey website: it has all you need to know to take part, links to resources for schools, and details about what has been learnt from the 25,000+ gardens surveyed by citizen scientists since the survey started in 2007. There are also loads of fun resources, like colouring competitions, bird masks and quizzes to test your knowledge.
